Remembering Our Nation’s Godly Foundations
Remembering Our Nation’s Godly Foundations
As we remember Presidents’ Day today, we pause to reflect on the leaders who have guided our nation—and the timeless principles that made America exceptional.
Originally established in 1879 as a federal holiday to celebrate George Washington’s Birthday on February 22, the observance shifted in 1968 to the third Monday in February. What began as tribute to the Father of Our Country soon evolved into Presidents’ Day, honoring all who have served in the Oval Office.
Yet, amid sales and long weekends, the deeper meaning endures: America’s prosperity, stability, and innovation stem from a foundation rooted in reverence for God and Biblical truths.
Our Founding Fathers and many presidents recognized this. George Washington warned against neglecting Divine guidance, while Calvin Coolidge declared that reverence for God undergirds law, equality, liberty, and property. Harry Truman emphasized that our founding documents must live in our hearts to remain powerful.
As Proverbs 14:34 reminds us, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” This truth sustained America for generations, producing unmatched freedom and creativity.
